Getting Help for Alcoholism

If you are suffering from substance abuse, it is time to get the help you need. There are many different treatment options available for those who abuse alcohol has become too much for. The first step towards recovery is admitting that you have a problem and need help to overcome your addiction. If you are ready to take the following steps toward sobriety, United Recover CA is here to help!

When is it Time to Seek Treatment?

Only you can decide when it’s time to get help. Addiction treatment is most effective when you or a loved one are committed to improving your mental health and well-being. If you are ready or considering alcohol or drug addiction treatment for a loved one, the following signs should help you make an informed decision:

  • You’re drinking more than usual.
  • You’ve been drinking more frequently
  • You’re using alcohol as a way to deal with stress
  • You’re in denial about how much you are drinking
  • You’re drinking and using drugs at times when you should be focused on other commitments
  • You are unable to stop abusing alcohol and other drugs
  • You have attended alcohol rehab or drug rehab before but have been unsuccessful in maintaining recovery.

Drug and alcohol abuse can lead to dependence, which puts you or a loved one at serious risk of health complications, so if you feel that your drinking habits are out of control, it is best to seek treatment sooner rather than later.

Treatment Options for Alcoholism

Alcoholism is one of the most common addictions in the United States. It is the third leading cause of death among people aged 15 to 44. If you’re struggling with alcohol abuse or know someone who does, various treatment options are available. Overcoming alcohol addiction begins with finding a qualified treatment center that understands your situation, needs and requirements. Inpatient treatment for alcohol addiction is the preferred choice for many, as it provides individuals with a safe place to recover, away from the drinking environment.

Outpatient treatment is another option for those who cannot commit to inpatient care due to life or work commitments. However, outpatient care does not offer the same level of support that inpatient treatment provides.  Choosing a program that will meet your specific needs and goals is crucial. In addition to choosing between inpatient and outpatient programs, there are various program lengths, such as detox-only programs or extended-rehab programs, designed for those needing long-term support.

Here at United Recover CA, we offer a variety of inpatient programs to help treat alcohol addiction and abuse. Our treatment centers are located in Laguna Hills, Orange County. We specialize in detox & rehab recovery programs tailored to our client’s individual needs.

The Process of Alcohol Rehabilitation

Once you decide that you want to quit drinking, you must begin the process of rehabilitation. This is where you learn how to live sober and stay sober. It is a gradual process that takes time and patience.

You will start by talking to our team of specialists to complete an initial assessment. The assessment process helps us understand your medical history, alcohol/drug use, and post-treatment goals.

Additional treatment considerations must be made if you suffer from mental health conditions such as depression or anxiety. Dual Diagnosis is a term used to describe individuals who struggle with substance abuse and mental illness. Those with a dual diagnosis will require specialized care during the rehab treatment program.

Alcohol Detox

The second phase of treatment is detox from alcohol, which may require medical supervision if you are severely alcohol dependent. It is recommended that you complete the detox phase under the care of medical experts. Detoxing from alcohol can be dangerous, even fatal in cases of severe alcohol dependence, so please speak to our team for professional treatment advice.

If you choose to detox from alcohol in one of our treatment centers, you will be monitored closely by our team of medical professionals to ensure that you are safe and comfortable throughout the entire process. To help reduce severe withdrawal, our in-house medical doctors may prescribe alcohol detox medication to support the withdrawal phase.

This process can take a few days and is designed to rid your body of the toxins associated with alcohol so that you can begin the therapeutic phase of rehab (therapy).

Residential Program

If you choose to complete a rehabilitation treatment program with us, you will remain at one of our addiction treatment centers in Laguna Hills and receive alcohol counseling from our team of addiction specialists. Therapy includes individual and group therapy sessions made up of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Therapy, Harm Reduction Therapy and much more. As part of your treatment plan, we offer additional holistic therapeutic activities such as Equine-assisted therapy.

The goal of treatment is to teach you the coping skills and strategies that will allow you to maintain sobriety after you leave treatment. You will learn about relapse prevention techniques and how to avoid triggers that could lead to future relapses.

Residential Programs

Outpatient Program

An alternative option to a traditional inpatient program is an outpatient program. An outpatient program allows you to continue living at home while receiving intensive counseling and therapy. Outpatient programs typically last anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months, depending on the severity of your alcoholism.

Outpatient programs are unsuitable for those with severe alcohol dependency, and do not provide the same levels of care compared to inpatient treatment.  While attending an outpatient program, you will remain vulnerable to triggers and stressors associated with daily life, which leaves you vulnerable to relapse.

Providing Care Through the Emergency Department

According to the California Health Care Foundation, an effective approach involves addressing the underlying issue of substance abuse disorder when you visit the emergency department. Whether you visit the emergency department due to an overdose or withdrawal symptoms, emergency physicians can administer buprenorphine for three days without the need for an X waiver from the US Drug Enforcement Administration. Buprenorphine is an FDA-approved drug that effectively reduces cravings and alleviates withdrawal symptoms.

Treatment Lengths & Costs

Our fully residential program runs for a minimum of 28 days, providing adequate time for the healing process. We also offer a shorter 14-day detox program, which is ideal for those who cannot commit to a longer stay, or an extended rehab program designed for those needing long-term care (90+ days)

Treatment can be funded with private health insurance or partially through state-funded Medicaid/Medicare. You can verify your insurance here.

Types of Therapy in Substance Abuse Treatment

Usually, an alcohol rehab center offers a variety of treatment programs to ensure that you continue receiving support on your recovery journey. The purpose of the following types of treatment is to completely transform your environment and thoughts about substance use and prevent a relapse.

Individual Therapy: This involves seeing a psychologist who uses techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy to change your thoughts and feelings about substance abuse. Consequently, it reduces the likelihood of relapse.

Group Therapy: This helps provide you with a sense of community where you surround yourself with people who have had similar experiences. This gives you the feeling that you’re not alone and helps you feel compassion for those in your group.

Family Therapy: This focuses on ensuring that you are met with a supportive environment after leaving the treatment facility. It raises awareness among your spouse, children, and parents about your struggles and the kind of environment that can ensure you don’t relapse.

Preventing an Alcohol Relapse

For many, leaving treatment and returning home can be a difficult time. Relapse is common during this period, but with the right tools and support, you can overcome these challenges.

At United Recovery, clients who complete our comprehensive inpatient program have access to our aftercare program, providing individuals with an additional support layer.

In conjunction with aftercare, those who complete alcohol rehab with us have access to our lifetime alumni program, recovery community and support network.

Whether you choose inpatient rehab with us or an outpatient program elsewhere, several support services are available in Laguna Hills and the surrounding areas of Orange County. We strongly recommend that you engage with a local AA support group to support your long-term recovery goals.

Support for Families

Families play a critical role in helping their loved ones recover from substance abuse. At United Recovery, we understand the importance of family involvement in the recovery process. Our staff works closely with families throughout the entire course of treatment.

We encourage all family members to participate in our family therapy session and any other activities offered as part of the residential program in our California centers. The role of the family in supporting the alcoholic is essential, but for many family members, resentment and guilt may have developed over time. This can make it difficult for them to help their loved ones or forgive them for past events.

Our family support program helps families cope with the stresses of addiction, and assists them in developing healthy relationships with their loved ones.

Additional family support services are available throughout Orange County, Al-Anon Family Groups operate in Orange County.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How much does rehab for alcohol addiction cost?

The cost of alcohol rehabilitation depends on some items such as – do they offer sober transportation, are their medical personnel licensed under specific state or federal laws, what is their staff-to-client ratio, to name a few. United Recovery’s prices are available upon assessment when a sample treatment plan can be created for your specific needs.

What can I bring to rehab?

Depending on which treatment centre you choose, you may be able to bring a mobile phone, books, and/or medical necessities. Other places will provide these for you instead. In United recovery, you should bring a few sets of clothes, any prescriptions you have, medical documentation, non-alcoholic cosmetic products, and comfort items (such as a favourite book, a stuffed toy, a family photo). When it comes to smartphones and laptop computers, this is decided on a per-case basis depending on the mental health status and treatment plan chosen.

Will I be safe during treatment?

United Recovery Project’s health care services are completely safe and protected. We have on-site security, CCTV working 24/7, and our medical and therapeutic personnel are available non-stop. Medically, we take great care in measuring, analysing and choosing any kind of medication provided during our treatment.

Can loved ones visit me during treatment?

Unlike in many alcohol rehab centers across the country, visitations at our center are not only allowed, we welcome them. Family Support therapy is part of the offered services, and this is a group session where you and your family members talk about the damage done by addiction while our specialist will help you heal your relationship.

How long should I attend rehab for alcohol and/or drug abuse?

The length of your stay depends on how advanced your dependence is, how you manage social situations and how quickly you regain control during your rehab stay. While the timeframe for which you have signed up will be the end of your initial treatment program, an extended alcohol rehabilitation option is available if you feel like you need more guidance.

Can I change my treatment plan if something is not working?

The treatment plan can be discussed during your stay. However, we will not switch back and forth therapies if they seem difficult, as overcoming difficulties is part of the process. If you and your therapist decide on better options, we can further discuss changes.
